Gateway to University Honors

COMPOSITIONS

Reflection

Here is a short description of what I learned in my Gateway to University Honors class, as well as what I hope to do with this information in the future:

This year in my Gateway to University Honors class, I learned what it means to be a member of the University Honors Program. The University Honors Program is not some little gold star that shows up on your diploma; it ensures that its members take advantage of the opportunities they have and thoroughly reflect on them afterword.

The most important thing that I learned in my Gateway class was how to reflect. Through completing my “About Me” and “Passions” assignments, in which I reflected on my personality as well as where I see myself in the future, I have learned what it means to reflect. I believe that learning how to successfully reflect on my life experiences and thoughts will help me to better appreciate my life in the future. Reflection can allow me to consider every past decision and future option that I have allowing me to make the best choices for the long run. My experiences in Gateway, with the help of my peers and professor, Kayti, were very beneficial. Beneficial not only to my participation in the Honors Program, but also in my daily life.

PASSION

Passion. Your passions define you. They describe who you are and what you love and where your priorities are. It is for this reason that I have always struggled to settle upon a “passion” of my own. I ask myself, what is something that I just absolutely love? I like a lot of things. I like running and biking and staying active, I like nature and animals and photography, and I like helping and getting to know people. So what is my passion? Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization in Orlando, FL that provides a week long place for families with children with life-threatening diseases to stay and make memories. I hope to spend my spring break at Give Kids the World, volunteering my time to make these kids' trips the best they can be!
